Stylistic Change and Breakdown
After focusing on lithographs and woodcuts during his stay in Paris in 1896-97, Munch’s painting style began to change over the next few years. His works from around the turn of the century showed an increasing decorativeness of colors, lines and planes, and a striving for monumental effects.
