Ernst Beyeler (* July 16, 1921 - † February 25, 2010)

In the evening of February 25, 2010, Ernst Beyeler, founder of our museum, has passed away.
He died quietly in his sleep at his residence in Riehen at the age of eighty-eight.

After a long, happy and fulfilled life, a great man to which the Fondation Beyeler, his home city of Basel, and the international art world owe a great deal, has left us.

We mourn him deeply. At the same time, we are grateful for having been able to know and cooperate for so many years with this extraordinary personality.

The memorial service for Ernst Beyeler will take place in the Basel Münster on Thursday, 18th March at 2.30 p.m.
